On 29th July 2011, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi respectively exchanged congratulatory messages with Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma and Foreign Minister Joseph B. Dauda in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone, I have the honour, on behalf of the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China and in my own name, to extend warm congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency, and through Your Excellency to the Government and people of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations forty years ago, through the joint efforts of our two sides, China-Sierra Leone relations have enjoyed sound and steady development. The two sides have enjoyed mutual trust and mutual support in political field, conducted mutually beneficial cooperation in national construction, and maintained close communication and coordination in international affairs. Especially since we entered the new century, pushed by the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, China and Sierra Leone's cooperation in all areas has further expanded, and the friendly cooperative relations between our two countries have shown broader prospects.
