Ambassador Kuang Attends Symposium in Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of China-Sierra Leone Diplomatic Ties

On July 26, in celebration of the coming 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Sierra Leone, the Chinese Embassy and Sierra Leone-China Friendship Society (SLCFS) co-sponsored a symposium at China House. Ambassador Kuang Weilin, Acting Foreign Minister Hon. Mrs. Elbun Jusu, Director General Mr. Soulay Daramy, SLCFS Chairman Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay as well as about 100 people from all walks of life attended the event. Ambassador Kuang and Acting Foreign Minister Jusu spoke at the symposium. Prof. Abdul Mansaray from Njala University gave a lecture on China. The symposium was chaired by SLCFC Secretary General Mr. Bassie G. Bangura.

Ambassador Kuang said in his speech that forty years ago, on July 29th, 1971, leaders of China and Sierra Leone demonstrated their extraordinary vision by making the historic decision to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries and thus opened a new chapter in the history of the bilateral relationship. Over the past forty years, China-Sierra Leone relations have stood the test of time and witnessed great achievements in various fields. The two countries have maintained high-level contacts and exchanges, and conducted fruitful cooperation in political, economic, cultural, diplomatic, educational, public health and many other fields. The peoples of the two countries have benefited a lot from the strong bilateral relationship. He emphasized that China-Sierra Leone relations are based on solid foundations and there exists great potential for future cooperation. Both sides should seize the opportunity of the 40th Anniversary to explore news ways and fields of practical cooperation, so as to further promote the bilateral relations.

Acting Minister Jusu said that Sierra Leone has enjoyed forty years of excellent relations with China and that the bilateral relations have been marked by mutual respect, trust and fruitful cooperation. She assured Ambassador Kuang that Sierra Leone is determined to consolidate and further strengthen the friendly bilateral relations with China.
