Chinese medical experts arrive in Ethiopia and Burkina Faso to aid fight against COVID-19

Two batches of medical expert teams, dispatched by the government of China, have arrived by charter planes in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa and Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou on April 16, 2020 respectively to assist the two countries' efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Their mission is to share their expertise and to provide technical and practical advice so as to improve the capacities of the two countries to prevent and to treat COVID-19.

"China has a track record in the fight against the coronavirus disease. We will share that experience with our friends in Burkina Faso", said Liu Jun, head of the medical team to Burkina Faso.

The two teams brought to the two countries medical supplies to combat COVID-19 and were welcomed at the airports by Chinese Ambassador to the country and Health Minister of the country. This is another vivid reflection of genuine friendship between China and Africa. It is also a practical step in building an even stronger community of shared future between China and Africa.

As of April 16, Burkina Faso has reported 542 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 226 persons have recovered and 32 patients lost their lives; Ethiopia reported 85 confirmed cases with 3 deaths.
