Chinese Ambassador WU Peng Meets withSierra Leonean Deputy Minister of Defense Sheriff

On the June 7, 2018, Chinese Ambassador WU Peng met with Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Defense Sheriff and exchanged views with him on military cooperation between China and Sierra Leone.

Ambassador WU congratulated Honorable Sheriff on his appointment as the Deputy Minister of Defense and noted that China and Sierra Leone for very long time has enjoyed a fruitful cooperation which facilitated the two sides to better understand each other and establish deeply-rooted friendship. He said China would further enhance cooperation with Sierra Leonein areas such as personnel exchanges, peacekeeping capacity building and actively support the Sierra Leonean military’s pursuit of national defense modernization under the New Direction agenda.

On his side, the Deputy Minister said that China is an important partner in helping develop the Sierra Leone Military into a modern and professional force, and the Sierra Leonean side learned a lot from communications and cooperation with the Chinese side. He expressed gratitude for China’s support and noted that the Sierra Leonean military is ready to further strengthen the friendship with the Chinese military, adding momentum for overall development of bilateral relations. The Deputy Minister also recalled the good old days of his one year stay in China and expressed his will to visit China again.
