Ambassador Wu Peng Joins President Koroma to Commission Three Hydro Power Stations

On 12 December 2017, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sierra Leone H.E WU Peng, joined the President of Republic of Sierra Leone H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to commission three new China-Aid Hydro Power Stations and related Transmission and Distribution Projects respectively in Port Loko, Charlotte, and Makali.

In his speech, Ambassador WU thanked President Koroma and the Government for their relentless support in coordinating the project and also the local communities for their tolerance of inconvenience during the implementing phase of the projects.

He noted that, the electrification projects would create jobs for the locals and enhance investments in the country thereby creating economy boost for the country. He reaffirmed China's commitment to be a reliable partner of Sierra Leone based on mutual respect and cooperation. And as Ambassador he would continue to strengthen and deepen cooperation with Sierra Leone in an effort to develop the country by encouraging more Chinese companies to invest in different fields.

On his side, President Koroma said his government has prioritized the energy sector because it can greatly contribute to social and economic development of the nation and that, the people have been eagerly awaiting the completion of these projects. He noted that, three Mini-Hydro Power Projects of Bankasoka, Charlotte and Makali have the potential of economic transformation that would benefit the country. He thanked the Chinese government for their support towards the three electrification projects and assured of greater economic cooperation between the two nations.

The ceremony was attended by all ministers of Government, paramount chiefs and other traditional leaders and a huge crowd of local people. The event was climaxed by a signing ceremony of documents between the Hon Minister of Energy, Henry Macauley and Ambassador WU Peng.
