On November 5, 2023, H.E. Mr. Wang Qing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, attended the Commencement Ceremony of the Expansion and Rehabilitation of the Railway and Pepel Port. Mr. Abass Bundu, Speaker of Parliment of Sierra Leone, and others participated the event.

    H.E. Mr. Wang Qing said in his statement that the Tonkoliliiron ore project is the largest mutually beneficial cooperation project between China and Sierra Leone. The new progress of the project will help Sierra Leone with its industrialization, promote its economic and social development, further demonstrating the bright prospects for China-Sierra Leone practical cooperation. He also introduced the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperationand its important achievements. He stressed that China is willing to align its development strategies with that of the Sierra Leone, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in mining, infrastructure and other fields, and promote the continuous development of China-Sierra Leone comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which will better benefit the two peoples.
